We are launching our first line of heated jackets on Kickstarter! But before we do, let’s get you up to speed on what there is to know about Kickstarter. For more information, be sure to check our Kickstarter’s website.
What is Kickstarter?
Since their launch on April 28, 2009, 15 million people, from all over the globe have backed a Kickstarter project, with $3.9 billion has been pledged, with 151,709 projects successfully funded (as of October 2018). But what is Kickstarter, you say? Kickstarter is a ‘crowd funding’ platform where creative projects come to life. Artists, filmmakers, designers, developers and creators with an idea for a project (like films, art pieces, apps; you name it!) can share it with the Kickstarter community. It is then up to the public to ‘back’ the project, meaning to contribute to its funding so that the creator can reach its starting goal before its month campaign is up. The good news is, the project can get on its way and start production if it reaches its starting goal, in the hopes that funding surpasses its first goal and achieves its ‘reaching’ goal. The earlier you contribute, the better, since creators sometimes find ways to incentivise people to back their projects (called ‘rewards’). These vary from project to project but can include a copy of what is being produced, and sometimes an experience unique to the project. The bad news comes if the project does not reach its starting goal; the project cannot start production, and we all don’t get to see the project come to life (nobody gets charged if the starting goal is not reached!).
What are the fees involved?
Funding is all-or-nothing and as we said earlier, no one will get charged for their pledges as a backer. However, if a project is successfully funded, Kickstarter applies a 5% fee to the funds collected for creators. Kickstarter’s payment processor also applies a processing fee for creators also.
Kickstarter prides itself on being a platform where creative projects, no matter how big or small and from a variety of categories can be shared. This does not mean just anything can be launched. Here are five rules every Kickstarter project must follow
1. Projects must create something to share with others
Every project needs a plan for creating something that the world can enjoy.
2. Projects must be honest and clearly presented
Creators need to be honest with what their project is and what it can/will do, and what they hope to accomplish. Projects cannot mislead people with misrepresentations. Kickstarter requires creators to show backers a prototype of what their making, if it involves manufacturing and distributing something complex like a gadget, and it does not allow photorealistic renderings.
3. No charity fundraisers
Nonprofits can launch projects, but the project itself cannot promise to raise funds to donate to a charity or a cause.
4. Projects cannot offer equity
Investment is not allowed on Kickstarter, and can’t offer incentive like equity, revenue sharing, or investment opportunities.
5. Projects can’t involve prohibited items.
Head on over to Kickstarter to find out what these items are. (link: https://www.kickstarter.com/rules/prohibited?ref=rules)

Inside the lining of each jacket are three carbon fibre heating elements located in the left chest, right chest, and mid-back. These heating elements are flexible and undetectable when wearing. Choose your toastiness with three heat settings - low, medium and high. All you need to do is plug in your Nu-Da rechargeable battery and simply hold down the LED button for 1-2 seconds and voila - instant warmth. The source of your warmth will remain a secret as the battery sits discreetly inside the jacket, undetectable from the outside. And, if it couldn’t get any more convenient, the battery doubles as a phone charger.
